Top 10 questions to ask before
purchasing t-slotted extrusions
1. HOW DO I KNOW I'M GETTING
THE BEST QUALITY PRODUCT FOR THE MONEY?
TSLOTS by Futura Industries is the only t-slotted
aluminum extrusion product that is sold by an aluminum extruder!
This means that you will receive a product that is created with
internal quality controls and has the same consistency every time.
Other companies use multiple extruders to manufacture their extrusions.
This fact limits their ability to provide you with a consistent
product.
2. THERE ARE SO MANY OPTIONS
OUT THERE, WHO SHOULD I BUY FROM?
Ultimately this is a question that you will have
to answer. We recommend that you award your business to a manufacturer
that will give you the attention that you deserve and will take
care of your needs in a timely manner. You should feel comfortable
and confident with the people you choose to do business with.
TSLOTS by Futura Industries believes that for us to satisfy our
customers we must be RELIABLE and RESPONSIVE to their unique needs.
Give us a try, we will take care of you.
3. Can I get t-slotted extrusions
in different colors?
In most cases the answer is no. Manufacturers
sell the t-slotted extrusions in a clear anodize color (silver).
TSLOTS by Futura Industries also stocks and sells the extrusions
in a clear anodize color, however, Futura Industries is an aluminum
extruder and has the ability to extrude and anodize in many colors
up to 8’. Extended lead-times and order quantities would
apply.
4. When should I use components
to assemble my design and when should I use machining?
Machining your extrusions gives you a “clean”
look and in most cases is structurally stronger. Component assembly
is better if you plan on adding to your design. On a cost basis,
machining will save you money in most instances.
5. How do t-slotted aluminum
extrusion compare to welded steel?
Aluminum extrusions are lighter than welded steel
and have similar strength characteristics. The main advantages
of t-slotted aluminum extrusions over welded steel are its linear
adjustability in the X, Y and Z axis, no welding required to assemble
structures so there is no heat stress or warpage, easy to fabricate
and its flexibility in modifying existing structures. Compared
to welded steel, t-slotted aluminum extrusions cost more. However,
the cost is more than made up in the time that is saved assembling
a project vs. welding it together.
6. Can I purchase metric or
fractional sizes?
Both metric and fractional sizes of t-slotted
extrusions are manufactured, but you can’t always purchase
both sizes from the same manufacturer. If you want to use fractional
extrusions then you will probably want to use a product manufactured
in the US. If you want to use metric extrusions then you will
probably want a product manufactured in Europe. If you want to
use both metric and fractional, then TSLOTS by Futura Industries
is your best option.
7. How is my product going to
be shipped?
Remember, customers pay for shipping costs, so
choose a packing method that minimizes shipping costs. Anything
that is “kit packed” in lengths under 8’ can
be shipped UPS and is the most cost effective. However, you can
also order in stock lengths of 20’ or have your design assembled
and delivered ready to use.
8. What is the best t-slotted
extrusion to use for my application?
There are many factors that determine the appropriate
t-slotted extrusion for your application. Some of them are load
sizes, length of extrusion, allowable deflection and allowable
stress. If you need help determining what you should use, contact
the TSLOTS Engineering Department at 800-824-2049 or use the TSLOTS
Deflection Calculator.
9. Are all t-slotted extrusions
the same?
No, not all t-slotted extrusion is the same. The
t-slot design employed by most manufacturers are slightly different
so components are not always interchangeable. TSLOTS by Futura
Industries
t-slot design is similar to the 8020 t-slot design. Also, the
aluminum alloy used in the t-slotted extrusions determines the
strength and finish characteristics of the extrusion. TSLOTS by
Futura Industries is made from the 6063 alloy which gives the
extrusion optimal strength and finish qualities.
10. What is a t-slotted aluminum
extrusion?
A t-slotted aluminum extrusion is a fastener friendly
product that can be used to attach other extrusions together by
utilizing the t-slot. The concept behind the t-slotted aluminum
extrusion is to make assembly of structures faster and easier
than using welded steel. This is because the main component of
the t-slotted system is the t-slot design. All that needs to be
done is to insert a t-nut and fastener into the t-slot and tighten.
